The Graham Gouldman - Thing (1968)

Его песни, ставшие хитами, вы слышали в исполнении Wayne Fontana, The Hollies, Freddie and The Dreamers, The Yardbirds etc. Теперь послушайте оригинал. Имхо намного круче всех альбомов 10сс. Оркестрованный поп спасет мир. :)

Graham Gouldman was born on 10 May 1945 in Manchester. His first band in 1964 were The Whirlwinds; later in February 1965, he formed The Mockingbirds. Their various singles flopped and in February 1966 he signed to Decca and attempted to launch a solo career. His first 45, Stop! Stop! Stop! (Or Honey I'll Be Gone) was a pleasant uptempo ballad which flopped but later that year he wrote Pamela, Pamela for Wayne Fontana and it became a hit.

In 1967 he wrote Bony Maronie At The Hop and set up a studio outfit called Manchester Mob to help him perform it. This turned out to be another commercially unsuccessful venture. Yet later, he again proved he had what it took to write commercial material when he became a staff writer for the Kasenatz-Katz production team in New York in the Autumn of 1969. Whilst there, he wrote and sang lead vocals on The Ohio Express's Sausalito (Is The Place To Go). He also penned Have You Ever Been To Georgia, which several artists have enjoyed hits with. Later in the year he wrote and sang on Susan's Tuba which Freddie and The Dreamers had an enormous hit with in France.

Prior to his spell with Kasenatz-Katz, Gouldman signed a contract with RCA in 1968. This resulted in the above album, which he co-produced with John Paul Jones (later of Led Zeppelin), and another 45 but neither seemed to have interested the punters.

Teaming up with future 10cc members Lol Creme, Kevin Godley and Eric Stewart (who he'd earlier worked with for Kasenatz-Katz) they worked as Hotlegs, but also wrote material for Ramases and Neil Sedaka before eventually forming 10cc early in 1972. He was with 10cc until they split in 1983 and in 1980 released the animated feature album, Animalympics. He went on to play in Wax with Andrew Gold.
